1.You do not have to be a victim of stress. In any unsatisfactory situation you have choices: Improve it, Wear it, or Get out. Improve it: means fixing the problem. Wear it: means accepting what you can’t change and stop complaining. Getting out: is sometimes the only way to fix the problem. If you cannot do this yourself then call us on 0414 985 280.

2. If you’re always running late, then allow more time. It’s relaxing to be early. Some problems are easy to fix.

3. Happy people are less stressed. When you are happy, it’s usually as a result of what you’re thinking about. Make a habit of absorbing good news and limit your exposure to bad news. There are good things happening in the world, in our country and community and our lives.

4. Mix with happy people. Funny ones too if you can find them.

5. Controlling your breathing is an instant stress reducer. Try this: Sit comfortably with your eyes closed. As you breathe in, think to yourself “cool in” then as you breathe out, think “warm out”. (The air is different. Have you noticed this before?) Repeat this several times and relax your body as your exhale. This works in the middle of the night if your mind is racing and you can’t sleep. “Cool in” and “Warm out” becomes your mantra and can exclude the worry thoughts. 6. Become involved in something bigger than yourself. It helps to keep things in perspective and gets your mind off yourself.

7. If you’ve taken on too much in your life, financially, emotionally, time-wise- then take stock and see what you can let go. Hold on to those things you can’t live without. This may mean learning to say ‘No’ more often.

8. We all make mistakes. If you make a mistake, get out of it as quickly as possible. Don’t wait around to make sure.

9. Are you in a good mood? The way you feel, or your state of mind, changes your biology. When you’re in a good mood, you’ll be less stressed. What puts you in a good mood? Consider; music, dancing (How about a twirl by your computer), singing, posture (keep that screen at eye level), playing with a pet, observing nature, colours, distraction, water therapy, pampering yourself, massage etc.

10. How about some new thoughts. Reality can get a bit much some times and we need a good dose of fiction to lose ourselves. We sometimes see two or three good movies (finish on humour) consecutively. By the time we come out of the theatre, we’re not sure who we are!
